I started quilting about 20 years ago. My girlfriend since grade school talked me into taking a community class at the local library. We purchased our fabric from JoAnns. The quality isn't great. I decided to quilt it myself by stitching in the ditch. Must has felt I suffered a sewing catastrophe of some kind because I only got about a third of the way when I folded it up and put it away. I'm on a mission to complete the UFOs laying around my sewing room and this popped up. Clearly I wasn't good at choosing colors. It's kind of dull. But, it's finished. And, for that I'm pleased with myself.

Our first granddaughter is coming!

We are so excited to welcome our first grand child into the world in about mid-August. I've been busy sewing lots of things including these two quilts. The theme of the baby's room is Jungle animals. Got this fabric from JoAnn's. One is a panel. Both are backed w/ Minky. The stuffed animals were made from patterns I got online from a company called DIY Fluffies. They weren't easy. I'm likely to purchase this child real elephants and giraffes than to make them again. Then, I made two crib sheets. All in all, they came out very cute, if I do say so myself.

First Double Wedding Ring Quilt III

I did not know the end of this quilt journey would be so emotional. Thank you for all of your sweet comments. I wanted to share the photo my baby brother just posted all the way from Zimbabwe. He travels to Africa about 3 times a year for missions work and this beautiful couple takes care of him while he visits. They have been married almost a year and now they have the quilt in their hands. My heart is full and happy tears keep flowing. I am not an artist, and am fairly new at quilting. My brother and I put ideas together and he counted on me to select prints, colors, and designs. I started adding my own spin on the intertwining flowers and vines. I couldn’t fmq feathers for the quilting design because my brain would not work with my hand motion so I just made up the design as I went along. I was fatigued after an unexpected surgery but had to finish to make a deadline. My husband helped me take photos and fed ex the quilt to Texas so that it could then be put in a suitcase headed overseas. I will never forget this journey and love this couples smile in the photo. I am taking a break. It may be a long break. So thank you everyone on this app for being positive and cheering me on. P

Monochrome with a touch of red

Years ago, I made a quilt for my niece, one of my first quilts. Her response, when she received it was "well, its very PINK". I learned that my niece is not a girly-girl, and decided to update her quilt when she turned 18. Pattern used was the Solstice Quilt Sew along from Pat Sloan, the first time I have committed myself to a weekly project. I changed a few minor things, to give the quilt a slightly more modern character.

I'm helping my friend piece quilts for her longarm quilting business. A family wanted six memory quilts made out of their fathers/grandfathers shirts. The plaid fabric is a flannel shirt in this quilt. My friend lets me use her longarm and will quilt for me in return. It's a win/win for both of us. :-)

First Double Wedding Ring Quilt I

My brother asked me to make a quilt for friends of his who live out of the country. These friends recently got married and wanted to give my brother a gift. The gift was a beautiful Persian Rug to take home with him. He thought of a wedding gift to give them when he returned. He requested flowers intertwined throughout wedding rings. I now need to free motion quilt feathers and fillers.

Pink and Gray Ribbons Quilt

Update: I quilted this on my friends longarm with swirl hooks. She's been teaching me. My second time FMQ on her longarm. I hand bound it. I made this pink and gray Jordan Fabrics Ribbons pattern quilt top for a best friend of one of my friends, who is fighting breast cancer. She requested a pink and gray quilt (her high school colors). I made my quilt (69 x 74") bigger than the pattern (50 x 60") since I was not using a layer cake. My husband says I'm in my big quilt phase as I usually make as least queen size. :-) I changed the border a little as I have my squares offfset by half a square, instead of a full square.

Western Wedding Quilt

A classmate of mine's daughter was getting married. I wanted to send her a nice wedding gift. I chose this fabric as it had our H.S. colors. They were also her daughter's. I purchased a small horseshoe from our local farm supply store and used it as a quilting template. I had a rope template and used it in the border of the orange. I used another overall template for the main body of the piece.

Arizona... Wedding Quilt

Our son was getting married! He and his future wife lived in Arizona at the time. She was born and raised there. She loves the desert colors. I found this block called Arizona, and thought it would be perfect for their wedding quilt. I stitched Saguaro cacti along the borders with sage brush where I had some puckering. ( I filled it in) I also found a Thunderbird Navaho Jewelry piece and used it as a pattern or template to quilt in the corners of the border. Also "wrote" their name and date of marriage on the border as well. I hand quilted some geometric designs on the block. I stitched in the ditch as well. With the leftover fabric I made a "pillow case" type cover to store the quilt in when not in use, just to keep the dust off. Like a dust cover! The "words" were written on the computer. Then I took that and found a window and traced that onto freezer paper. Ironed the freezer paper onto a white piece of fabric, then stitched over the words. This made the label for their quilt.

Scrappy Rail Fence "Aqua"

This is the second time I've made this pattern. This time I chose all blues/aquas. This is going to be perfect for a baby due in August whose mommy and daddy are not revealing gender. It is 54" x 54"--large enough for tummy time, tent-making and story time snuggles.
