Around 1994 I took a beginning quilting class at The Quilt Patch, my local quilt shop. I was hooked! The first quilt I made was twin sized, made with flannel with a variety of blocks. The teacher let me use flannel only because I had taken an advanced sewing class with her and she said she thought I could handle flannel on my first quilt. Hindsight being what it is, I think I might have had an easier time of it had I not chosen flannel that first time! This is also when I learned that I had actually made a quilt 13 or so years earlier. I hand quilted -- and this was my one and only hand quilted project. My son Brian still has and uses the quilt.

My youngest son was moving into his own room, which was decorated with his bear collection. I found a red & white panda bear print fabric and made drapes and a matching coverlet. It wasn't until I took a quilting class 13 years later that I discovered I had actually made a quilt!

I have made one quilt for many in my family, but never one for my husband. He is so supportive of my quilting. Recently he asked for a quilt of his own. So, for his birthday I am making him a quilt. I can't keep secrets and am so excited about it so he will probably see it along the way, but that is okay. He is so loved!
