Quilt for GYN Cancer Survivors

As a cancer survivor, I wanted to make a quilt for my Oncologist's office to thank the staff for their excellent care and enthusiastic support as I went through my treatments. This quilt was presented to my oncologist at Athena's Run for GYN Cancer. It is now hanging in the Chemo Room at her office to encourage those going through the treatments.

Pie Birds

This little table runner is taken from Kim Diehl's book Simple Charm using, my favorites, Kansas Troubles. I am novice machine quilter but I wanted to try the suggested quilt pattern. So with my trustee chalk pencil I proceeded. Although things went awry in some places, over all I am very happy with the finished runner.

Starbright mini quilt

For the 2016 NC Quilt Symposium, the Capital Quilters Guild was soliciting donations of 18” quilts to be placed in a silent auction for the benefit of Military Missions in Action, a local charity helping vets. The theme was to be a star. I drew out the pattern I wanted, with short and long arms, divided between light and darker gold batiks, and pieced using a navy starry batik. It took a little experimentation to get things right! Then I quilted it on my home machine and bound it with a dark blue batik. I was working the auction when a man came in, pointed straight at my quilt and said “this is COOL!” He came back and put in a higher bid than I had for this one. Last I checked the bid was over $50. I don’t know what it finally went for, but hopefully, someone is enjoying it.

This was a rushed project submitted as my first quilt show entry hosted by the quilt guild I am a member of! I didn't have a pattern to go by...I just let my imagination run wild! I didn't place in the quilt show (it was in a heavy category of many quilts); but it was a great experience!

Applique table topper

This was an experiment using scraps for the applique. I used part of an applique pattern from Kim Diehl's "Simple Comforts" book. Then added a border. It was fun to make and it is always nice when a vision becomes a reality.

Scrappy Pumpkins

I kept seeing such cute pumpkin quilts online and on Instagram and I knew I had to make one too- we just moved into a new town and we are really sprucing our our new house. I found this pattern on Craftsy, by Must Love Quilts. I added 2.5in sashing and a 5.5in border. I used some of my stash fabric and I bought more from my LQS. On my pieced backing, I stitched down some of the selvedges I used. I absolutely love how this turned out and it's perfect for keeping warm all autumn long!
