This one is for my step son Trevor. He is a bit modern in his style so decided to try a strip quilt. Nothing more modern than black, white and grey. :-) This is my first quilt done with strips and it was a bit harder to design than I expected. Really enjoying this quilting journey that I've taken this year. I'm tying all my first quilts this year like my husband remembers his grandmother doing.

Patriotic

This is for my step son, Stevie. He is an amazing young man serving right now in the Air force. He has a heart of gold and is always first to offer help. I couldn't think of a better quilt pattern that fits his personality than a patriotic themed friendship star. Now, I will say that this is my first attempt with triangles. I cut out squares, then cut each one in half to make the triangles. Then sewed the triangles back together to make the half squares.... theeeeeennnn I ran across Missouri Star and Jeni's tutorial on half square triangles... I wish I saw that shortcut before cutting out all those triangles! LOL Live and learn and I have been hooked on the quilt tutorials since. :-)

Strong Silent Type

This is for my step son, Kevin. I decided on a western theme because he reminds me of those Louis L'Amour characters. He works hard and is very successful considering he is just 23. He has that quiet justice and strong caring personality. Every now and then he comes up with that zinger that stops you in your tracks and makes you double over in laughter. This is my fourth quilt. I stepped a bit out of my comfort zone and designed a pattern out on graph paper. Wanted to start trying more complicated patterns. I absolutely love how this turned out. :-) I can't wait to give it to him.

Good Night Howard

I fell in love with the Good Night Irene pattern when Jenny did the tutorial. It was a matter of time before I tried my hand at it. I'd teased my youngest son that it was going to be his wedding quilt (he doesn't have a job, or a gf yet). Then once it was laid out, Howard fell in love with it. That was the end of somebody's wedding present.

Yes I know my team is losing Oven Mitts/Potholders

I originally purchased this fabric to make my husband a throw but decided to use a little of it to make him some oven mitts and potholders. Just a subtle hint on my part to show him how much I appreciate him learning to cook at age 65. Now get in there and rattle those pots! I used the tutorial and template from the Crafty Gemini but made the mitts a little larger for his hands.
