    My first attempt at "free style" - meaning that I did not follow a Jenny YouTube tutorial to the letter! I saw the block and thought it could make a pretty table mat for a small square table. The block comes together easily enough. I used the Zig Zag Tablerunner's sandwich method to place a back and low loft batting inside. I stitched in the ditch just enough to hold it steady. (Dec 2015) Snowflake Fabric = Hobby Lobby exclusive (leftover charms from a Zig Zag Tablerunner) Solid Fabric = Unknown source (from Mom's stash)

    A planned hostess gift for a friend who has a beautiful jewel toned, gradient Christmas tree. Batik charms from MSQC on the front. Used a MSQC grab bag scrap on the back that has a batik sea turtle print. Thought I'd never use that when I saw it! However, I think it's perfect for this! So, now it is reversible: the top for Christmas and the back for Summer by the pool. (Nov 2015)

    Part II - My first attempt at Applique. After watching Applique Tutorials, this saved me time and patience. I had fun and would do it again. These are the matching placemats to the table runners that I posted earlier. My cousin, Chris, is sponsoring a winter wonderland for her Church. She is responsible for 2 tables. I offered to help her by making these Tree Placemats. The fabric is beautiful, Holiday Magic - Trim a Tree, by Benartex., & Artisan Batiks - Noel Cloud Metallic Yardage, by Robert Kaufman. I had a lot of fun making these. I didn't realize the time it would take to make 20 placemats. Next time I would buy a pattern for this project instead of using a picture. The pattern does all the quilting math and that is so worth it. Merry Christmas my friends.

    We were having Christmas dinner at our place and my husband's Aunt was coming. We had presents to give to everyone, except her. She had just moved into an assisted living apartment so her space was limited and we didn't know what to give her. We thought about a small fleece blanket she could use on her lap when watching TV, but we were not impressed with what we saw at the stores. My husband asked if I could make a lap quilt for her before our dinner, which was in 3 days. We went home and I finished this small quilt that evening. She was very pleased and I think a little overwhelmed to get something homemade and so pretty.
