Kissing Coins

My daughter asked me to make a baby quilt for a shower that was coming up quickly. I chose this pattern because It would be easy and not take long. We knew it was a boy, but I'm pretty committed to not making "baby-baby" quilts. I always like to think of the child growing so attached that the quilt goes off to college with him/her. Hence, the color selection.

Melon Blossoms

This is my take on Melon Blossoms by Krystal Stahl. I did not have the pattern, only a picture so my blocks are probably a different size than the pattern called for. It was just as well because when you sew with donated fabric, you don't always have all of the fabric you need to follow the pattern block sizes.

Baby quilt with cuddle fabric backing

A friend asked me to make her new grand baby a quilt and sent me fabric for the project. I was nervous when I discovered that the backing for the quilt was cuddle fabric, since I had never used it in a project. I decided to use the quilt-as-you-go method to piece the top and then attach the back with some straight line machine quilting. Instead of using a separate binding, I folded over the backing and used a zigzag stitch to finish the edge. It was much easier to work with than I expected.

Building Blocks by Moda Bake Shop pattern

I found this darling baby fabric so then I found the pattern for free on Moda's web site. It goes together easily. You don't have to have the center square monogrammed, but I thought it made it special. I put Cuddle Cloth on the back of both quilts. Moms and babies love it! I have one pink quilt & one blue quilt pictured.
