I love whole cloth quilts; they remind me of fluffy frosting! I utiilzed a couple of stencils that I have had for awhile that I previously didn't know what to do with. I also incorporated machine embroidery in the center medallion. Embroidery was done with Mettler Polysheen thread, the inner border was stitched with Essential Pro poly 40 wt thread and the balance was stitched with So Fine 50 wt thread. This is the first time I added "bling" to a quilt but felt since it was a celebration quilt, bling was quite okay! As a final touch, I added piping to the binding in the same golden shade as the thread used in the embroidery and the inner border to tie everything together. I started with traditional quilts but gravitated toward art and modern quilting. It's all good and thoroughly addictive. By Tigerlily 5 LIKES | 893 VIEWS Memories A friend asked me to make a memory quilt for her son who was graduating. She had collected his t-shirts since elementary school. She had also already cut them into shapes she thought would work for a future quilt. The challenge was to use her shapes in the quilt. I appliquéd the revised shapes onto squares and rectangles that were then joined by a quilt as you go method. The result was a fully reversible quilt with one side representing elementary years and the other representing high school years. It is the first quilt that I free-motion quilted and that I did stitch-in-the-ditch. By Bec02 11 LIKES | 1068 VIEWS Stoneybrook Pond We have begun to "winter" in Estero, FL. We live on a golf course and right below our condo is a pond. I love watching the birds and other animals come to visit. I paper pieced some of the animals that have come this year...and the highlight of my stay has to be the day the American Bald Eagle came swooped down, caught a fish, and enjoyed its catch on the 10th hole! By diane 4 LIKES | 1419 VIEWS A Happy Birthday Christmas This project was inspired by MSQC's video to make a pennant banner. My granddaughter was born Dec 25, 2013 and I had made her big brother a pennant Happy Birthday banner just like the one in the video. However, I wanted Callie's to be "girlier", but also didn't want it to be too "kiddy" so it would be appropriate for birthdays into her teen years. I found Sweet Tooth by Robert Kaufman on the MSQC website and thought it would be perfect!
