Boys and their toys

I saw this fabric panel and co-ordinating fabric on MSQC and just had to have it. I thought it would be a fab quilt for my truck obsessed 4 year old son. I finished it and had my mum and dad quilt it a couple of days ago and I finished the binding tonight. It's already on his bed and he loves it. Made July 2015.

Disappearing Pinwheel Quilt

I watched this tutorial and also bought the issue of Block. I learned I had to starch my fabric if I was going to make bias HST blocks and have them all be the same size. I used the Eleanor Burns pillow case quilt method instead of making the traditional sandwich because I wanted to get this done, but I think a brown border with an unbleached muslin binding or at least a brown binding would have made the pinwheels "pop" a bit more. This is the first quilt I machine quilted on my home sewing machine.

Phillips Fiber Arts Mariners Compass adapted

I bought the templates for a Mariner's Compass from Phillips Fiber Arts. When I actually made the compass, it was not what I had expected: it is folded and results in several layers of fabric instead of a truly pieced project. Oh well -- my DIL likes it as it is in her colors.

Christmas Pathways

This started with Pathways a 3 Yard Quilt pattern. Adding an extra row of blocks to the width and widened the border to make a nice size throw. This quilt was made as a silent auction for our local Ducks Unlimited Chapter. Some of the ladies like to have items that are not specifically waterfowl related on which they can bid. One of my early machine quilting attempts.

Hands 2 Help Lap Quilt

This happy lap quilt is for the Hands 2 Help Quilt Challenge 2015. The blocks are 20" square with various width strips, laid out like a rail fence quilt. The backing is a Jennifer Paganelli print in light aqua with a yellow design. This quilt will be donated to the Layers of Hope - Quilting 911 which gives quilts to 911 dispatchers and their families. It's about sharing love with our unseen heroes. The quilt measures 58" x 78".
