    “Enchanted” Chevrons

    I created this quilt for my older daughter for Christmas. (Her first quilt from me. Her first quilt was her baby quilt made by her great, great Aunt Lois Westen) She has loved Beauty and the Beast since it came out when she was a child. She also loves the color pink. I used Koda White for the background and 2/3 yard cuts of multiple cotton and batik fabrics for the chevrons (6-10” squares) pieced and quilted on my domestic machine. The quilt finished at 79”x90”. It was truly a labor of love and she loves it!

    I made this for my nephew after he returned from his second tour. I had an idea but no pattern. The panel has trapunto quilting for the eagle, flag and tassels. The quilt was quilted on my home machine. I went through a lot of trial and error but I think the results are good. My nephew really appreciates the quilt and is quite proud of it. This was the third quilt I have made. The pillows were made from leftover fabric.

    Our oldest grandson graduated college from a prestigious university. I wanted to make him something that he would enjoy; hence the red, grays and black. These are his favorite colors. The rhombus quilt was the answer. He was a science major so this was the perfect quilt. I made one box top out of a different fabric so that he would always remember to think "Outside the Box". I made two matching pillowcases and an 18" decorator pillow. The quilting was custom to bring out the 3-D boxes. The circle quilting on the pillow is the same that was on the black border. I backed it with a very soft medium gray minky.

    My Christmas Present to Myself

    I always wanted a Christmas quilt and loved the Missouri Star Present Quilt. In searching for a Christmas layer cake all the traditional reds and greens seemed the same. Silvers and golds would not show up on a white background. Then I stumbled across this vintage Cotton and Steel line called Garland. Many of the prints reminded me of decorations from my childhood. It was fun raiding my stash to find coordinating ribbon and bow fabric. While this photo shows off the entire quilt well, the detail of the prints is lost. I hope you enjoy it anyway. I love it and I guess that's all that matters.

    This table runner is made from the left-over fabric from another Christmas gift I made earlier this month. The fabric is Winterberry by Kate and Birdie for Moda. The white-work embroidery motifs are from the freebie bin at Kreations from Kara, I just love how they have turned out. Tried to have a go at free-motion swirls - moving up from stipples.

    I've wanted a quilt for our king sized bed for sometime and finally found a material combination I love. I'd had this focus material for years it was the others that gave me problems. I wanted a quilt that would look nice on the head and foot board that I made from old five panel doors. The doors were original to our 116 year old home. I am pleased with how they look together.
