I had a cherry blossom fabric languishing in my fabric closet which my daughter, Amy, spotted while visiting. When I saw the pattern in Missouri Quilt Block magazine (Winter 2015, Volume 2, Issue 1, pg. 16), watched Jennie's tutorial on the Disappearing Hourglass 2, and took a Block class at a quilting shop, the result is the fabric disappearing from the closet to a finished quilt for Amy. I used black Kona fabric and bordered the quilt with red and black. I practiced some free motion designs, added decorative stitching and "stitched in the ditch" on my domestic sewing machine. Although I was skeptical about making it because the pattern looked complex, it was surprisingly not difficult to complete and I learned a lot by sewing and quilting it. The quilt now happily resides in her home and not in my closet.

Mini Tumbler scrap buster

Lots and lots of mini tumblers went into the making of this quilt. I began with a charm pack and then realized I needed much more..haha..I ended up with 4 Lulu and 4 Garden Tango charms packs plus a couple solids. Once I got started it was hard to stop.

Quilts for FEMA & the mud slide in Oso WA disaster

It was the largest natural disaster in the USA, the community in OSO, a mud slide. 44 died and over 18 acres. They started to request quilts as it was in the late winter. So we got our family together and started sewing. The FEMA center was one block behind our house. So here are pics of the a couple of the FEMA staff receiving the quilts with my granddaughter and grandson and my wife Cathy. We used 4 patch block and 9 patch and pinwheels so we could get them down quick. It is always a blessing to give it away.

Conversation starter Memory quilt

This quilt was made for my oldest Daughter for Christmas 2014. I used photo fabric and printed photos of her as a child through her adulthood. I felt it would be a great conversation starter with her children to '"Tell the Story". Needless to say she loved it! I made her a bag to carry it in for outings with her family. I quilted this at home free motion style. It was only the 2nd quilt I have ever made so there are mistakes along the way, but I managed to get it done thanks to MSQC videos!
