My granddaughter is such a gem that I purchased the 10 Carat Gems Layer Cake set by Wilmington for her Ball State University graduation quilt. It will sparkle in any place she chooses to use it. I used the tutorial by Jenny in cutting and sewing but did make the quilt much larger than Jenny's. Erin loves optical illusions and fell in love with the quilt as soon as I gave it to her. It was backed with a coordinating Wilmington wide backing and the binding was made of strips of left over fabric sewing together to make the colorful, but matching binding. A fine local long arm quilting friend did the quilting for me.

Square Dance for Kiera

I loved this line of fabric the first time I saw it, Northcott's "Charlotte". I made this for my grand daughter when she's ready to graduate from the baby bed. I used one charm pack, one roll of 2 1/2" strips and two rolls of 1 1/2" strips for the background and inner border plus some yardage for the outer border and binding. I followed Jenny's tutorial for the Square in a Square block. The pattern on the MSQC website is called Square Dance. MSQC did the quilting. The backing is fabric that I bought at an estate sale way back when a baby girl was just wishful thinking. The little pillow case was adapted from Jenny's pillowcase tutorial. Easy peasy. My sister taught me how to do the flange binding. Very happy with the way it turned out.

Baby Grand

Saw this idea on Pinterest, to make a baby grand piano out of log cabin blocks. I realized that the blocks were the curved log cabin blocks in Jenny's tutorial. I work with theatre groups who do musicals. We had one very talented pianist that did the music for 3 plays. I wanted to make this for her! Love how it turned out! In making the keys, I did one of the three using raw edge appliqué. I was afraid this wouldn't hold up to washing, so I pieced the other two. It was more work, not as straight, but I think it will hold up better.

Nine Patch Madness

I decided to venture into the world of precut fabrics, and though it can be more pricey than yardage, it was well worth it! The time saved from the precuts gave me the drive to get outside my comfort sone and try something organized, but scrappy. I took to laying out the charm packs and sorting the colors and patterns I liked, then it was on! I really enjoyed making this quilt, and it wasn't for a particular person, or reason. This was new, it was just for the fun of it.
