Tina's Good-bye Quilt

I am an Air Force wife and I've met lots of extraordinary people in our travels. Currently, we are stationed in Northern Japan. The Air Force has a program called the Key Spouse program. Basically, a few selected Active Duty spouses undergo training to provide support to spouses and families of deployed service members. When I was brought on, our squadron was receiving a new First Shirt and his wife was going to be running our Key Spouse program. She became a mentor to me and taught me how to take care of our families and about living a life of service. Well, her husband retired from the Air Force after 26 years and I offered to make Tina's gift from myself and the other Key Spouses. It took me a month to make and I put the last stitch in the binding at 1:30 a.m. the night before we were presenting it to her at their farewell dinner. She loves it so much and I was proud of myself for not crying. Even though I'm not the best machine quilter, I am proud of how it turned out.

Under the Texas Stars

My younger brother is a RN and has taken on the responsibility for our elderly father (and mother before she passed in 2013). He has loved quilts since our great grandmother made each of my siblings an "around the world" quilt top many years ago. Only one is still in use as the others were used to the point of extinction. As a thank you for all he has done for our parents, my sister and I decided to make this quilt for him and gave it to him this past 4th of July. We are proud native Texans so felts this would be the perfect quilt for his bed.

Autumn Leaf Cabins

Autumn is my favorite season and I wanted to make a quilt that reflected the things I love most about it: the colors and the falling leaves. Using fall prints from various collections, I made 6" Maple Leaf blocks. Then, around each block I added 1.5" logs in red, orange, Brown and forest green prints and fall patterns. I arranged the blocks so they look like they are falling through they air. The back is made up of large pieces of autumn-themed prints. My cat, Vader - one of my brood of five - helped and therefore demanded credit by appearing in the pics!

Twisted Sugar Blocks

I loved Amy Gibson in the Craftsy 2012 BOM class. I learned different techniques (paper piecing!) and had fun. So when she started the Sugar Block Club in 2013 I had to join. I finally got around to putting the blocks together in a layout I thought up. I wanted the quilt to be big enough for at least a double bed and I had a few blocks that were smaller than the others. So, I framed them in one color and twisted them in another color. You can't tell which are small now! Then I made a piano key border out of the leftover fabric and added that to the top to make it even bigger and use up all my leftover fabric. This was my first attempt at mitering the border. I love it! The other two photos are tops my sister and our friend made. We all made the same blocks, but with different fabrics and different layouts.

Going Green

Starting out on my very first bus shop hop I had plans for a RWB quilt using some 3-fabric BOMs I had collected. First stop I was drawn to the greens instead and each shop pulled me closer and closer to doing a green on green quilt instead. Here's what came out of that trip.

Hugs & Kisses Baby Quilt - girl

I initially made this for my niece's first baby. After I had finished it, they found out they were having a boy. The men in our family said that I would have to make another quilt because this one was too girly. So that's when I made Hugs & Kisses - boy version that I posted previously. This one is still waiting on a sweet little baby girl to come along. :)
