Framed Square

I know some people call this a square in a square...I just always called it a framed square. I made this back in 2006, and even quilted it on my Pfaff. It is a about 50 x 60 inches. I made it for a baby...I tend to make baby quilts more for floor quilts. Big enough to lay the baby on on the floor with enough room to roll around a bit. Not sure whether to call this traditional or modern. Also, I included a photo of the back. I tend to always do something a bit different with the back. Sometimes I just add a line of squares across. Other times I go a little bit wild.

Hex Table Topper

This little table topper was one of four I donated to a fund raising event for the local VFW. They are raising funds for a new veteran memorial for out county courthouse lawn. Trying to cover seasons and some holidays the pieces were all reversible and each one brought $50 at auction. This little hex table topper is 1930's print for spring and patriotic on the reverse.

Bingo squares

Dec. 4, 2013 2 squares for playing bingo at Common Thread Quilt Club. The columns are by color, green-blue-purple-red-yellow, the categories are solid, dot, stripe, metallic, floral, leaf, thirties, stars, novelty, etc. The black square in the middle is the free square.

My Flag

I saw a kit for a similar flag in a magazine. I designed the blue field with Friendship Stars. The challenge in this quilt was keeping the sizing correct for a flag, which meant that the blue field would span 7 stripes, 4 red and 3 white. The stripes are very scrappy triangles. It is ditch quilted.

Mini Flag #2

Bill from facilities came to the office and admired the flag quilt. Gonna make him one. Got the red triangles done. Sunday, Nov 10: going downstairs to watch Broncos and sew some more white triangles. Friday, Nov 15: finished blue field. Monday, Nov 18: almost finished quilting - ditch for stripes and stars. May do echo around the stars. Size: 26" x 36" Sat. 11/30/13. 2 sides binding done. Completed, label states Made by Diane Zirin, 2013. Mon 12/2/13. Caught Bill (Gentry) as he was going down the hall, gave him the flag quilt. I think he is going to give it to his daughter that is in the Air Force. He was very pleased. He might bring me some chocolate fudge.

Dana's Asian Wall Hanging

I forgot all about the fact that my sister-in-law asked me to make her a quilt for her living room, until she reminded me last March. So I looked for something simple and pleasing - she though Asian style would look good. Found this kit at Holly's Quilt Cabin. I messed up the center panel by washing it - the black ran into the while areas. Then I tried a color-remover, and it bleached the whole panel. So I went on the internet to see if somebody, somewhere had this panel for sale, else I was going to be out of luck. And I found it, yea! Quilted by Connie Nelson at Top Quilters. Birdhouse of the Month

Common Thread Quilt Club exchange. Theme was birdhouse of the month. Set with Winding Roads setting as seen in Sharyn Craig's Settings book. I did 3 of the blocks (December, March and June).
