My friend showed me the Starburst quilt which she learned from MSQC tutorial. I wanted to try it, so I started by looking at my friend's quilt. I used 5" squares, and customized the design as I wanted the rectangular quilt. Later, I checked the tutorial, and realized I should have watched the video first, to learn shortcuts.

Made this quilt for us. I used Jenny's Disappearing Hourglass 2 pattern in Moda Lady Slipper Lodge fabric. It was quilted by a local long arm quilter using pattern of vine.

African Ten Commandments

I made this quilt before, but with Western fabric and Cowboy lingo, This time it it is African fabric (I found a site that sells authentic African fabric in a jelly roll!) and the language is Chichewa, which is the language spoken in Malawi. It's a gift. My church has a mission team that visits with Abundant Life Center in Malawi ever year. The verses were embroidered on my embroidery machine.

Strip pieced Lone Star

Experimenting with various sizes of lone star blocks, I used an inexpensive jelly roll ( colors seemed ugly to me!) to play around with a 4 strip set lone star. It turned out to be a much more attractive star than I thought it would be.

Rainbow swirl Lone Star

A friend knew I was experimenting with strip piecing to build a lone star quilt. I shared my first attempt with her and she found a picture of a lone star quilt made with colors thar swirled. I know this is a published pattern, but I was so excited to try to create it, I figured out how to make and sew my strips to make the center swirl. I've subsequently purchased the pattern and will make more of these. They are easy peasy to do!

Do Bears Play in the Woods?, an appreciation quilt

When my husband had a heart attack over 300 miles from home while in Bryan, OH, he was fortunate enough to be at a lovely campground called Hickory Acres. When he was released from the hospital the doctor didn't want him to leave for home for at least 4-5 days. The onsite grounds keeper befriended us and lent us his personal John Deere Gator to use for the next several days. It was such a generous gesture from a complete stranger. Thank Dave Lincoln.

When my husband had a heart attack over 300 miles from home, the wonderful admin at the company where I work got plane tickets for me to get me there the same day. She loves chocolate but it doesn't agree with her as it did in her younger days so I gave her chocolates that will agree with and last a lifetime.

Diamonds for Diana

I made this cotton quilt for my sister-in-law. She wanted a back and white quilt. I found a quilt on the internet I liked and figured out how it was put together. Diana picked out the fabric she wanted in it. It was quilted by a local long arm quilter with the pattern Modern Ties. I thought the pattern went well with this modern looking quilt. It was fun to make.
