Rainbow Ribbon Quilt
I bought the kit from Craftsy during a heck of a sale. I didn't look at the size, I was just intrigued by the colors. It sat on my cutting table for several weeks in its unassuming package, tempting me.
I decided to challenge myself to see how quickly I could make it. I sorted out the colors (28!) on Thursday, and started cutting pieces on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I finished the center on Saturday evening, the next row by Sunday evening, another row by Monday evening and more by the end of Tuesday. I then went back to my regular job, and worked on it evenings and weekends for another two weeks. I was completed piecing by the fifteenth of June.
For the back, I like using extra wide backing - but this quilt is a monster at 108" square. I ended up taking every leftover scrap from the front and making several long 10" wide panels that I inserted into the backing.
I took it to the longarmer. We decided that the colorful piecing on the front was more than enough to catch the eye - so an unobtrusive all over quilting would be best. For the bobbin, they used a colorful variegated thread, so it has the same colorful feel as the front. I was quite thrilled with the results.
