Red Study
I wanted to make my cousins wife something and learned that she likes red. I saw a MSQC tutorial that used the Crazier Eights templates (so, of course, I had to purchase them), and decided that this would be a great idea for her gift. Anyway, I tend to favor smaller items, so I chose to make five blocks of each color in the layer cake; this provided a total of 20 small blocks. After sewing four blocks to make larger designs, I chose one to use to audition my methods for the final project. I learned that, by turning the four smaller blocks before sewing them into a larger block, one can create a small star, a large star, a small pinwheel, and a large pinwheel. Anyway, this is my sample/audition wall hanging for a larger project. NOTE: I used a heavier weight thread for the decorative stitching and also stitched corners onto the back so that I could use them to insert a dowel for hanging.
