Mini Quilt Sampler Two

I signed up to take a mini quilt class and had purchased batiks. but I did not have time to get them washed and pressed, These are the batiks I had chosen to use for the class. This one was more difficult, primarily because I arbitrarily changed my 1/4" seams and messed up the spacing, so I punted and tried to pull it off. I think I will do this again, but swap the blue for the purple. (This piece is approximately 14.5" x 14.5".)

Mini Quilt One

I signed up to take a mini quilt class and had purchased batiks. Unfortunately, by the time I got home with them, I did not have enough time to get them washed and pressed, so I used these, which were left over from a previous project. Anyway, I was pleased with the way this turned out. To be quite frank, I expected more of a "mini" than this, but I learned the concepts. (This piece is approximately 14" x 14".)

Walking For My Heart

I Walked The Line Challenge No. 4 0f 52; There was definitely a lot of walking in this mini quilt! This is called Matchstick Quilting that I learned with Jacquie Gering's book, "Walk: Master Machine Quilting with Your Walking Foot". The quilting is 1/8" apart and definitely required "walking" with the walking foot (and 2 bobbins full of thread . . . lol)!

I Walked the Line No. 1 of 52

This new year, 2021, I have challenged myself to learn more walking-foot quilting. My challenge is to create 52 mini quilts, no bigger than 12" x 12", with each one quilted with a different walking-foot design. My goal is to create one mini quilt per week plus keeping a weekly "blog" (journal) of my quilts in a 12" x 12" binder. Some of the mini quilts I will probably give away, others I will keep. My final goal is that by the time I reach the end of the year I will have designed and quilted several mini whole-cloth quilts

Peggy's Quilt #33 - Mod Owls

This is my 33rd quilt. It’s a twin size at 62”W x 78”L before washing. The Mod Owls pattern is by Jenny Pedigo and Helen Robinson for Sew Kind of Wonderful. The kit was purchased from Missouri Star in July 2018 but I didn’t start sewing until May 2019, finishing in June 2019. The quilt and pillowcase are for my granddaughter Bennett Rose, for her 8th birthday in February 2020. This was fun to make because of the batik fabric and curved owls – my first effort at sewing curves. The free-motion long arm quilting was beautifully completed by Lyn Durbin. At my request, she used a darker thread so that the leaves and curls would show on the light batik background as well as the owl fabrics. My sister and I bought a set of books to go with this owl themed quilt. The series is Guardians of Ga’Hoole” by Kathryn Lasky. Rising Star / Super Nova

This quilt was made for someone who had a rough year in 2018. It hasn't been gifted yet as I am making one for her mother who has also had a rough 2018 and I want to gift them together. My best friend from High School has a long arm set up and she did the quilting for me on this piece due to the size. The pattern is super simple and available freely in several places online. It's basically all Half Square Triangles, its the color lay out that takes all the time. I spent at least a week moving color squares around.

Quilts Gifted – A little gift to women I’ve never

A friend of mine travels annually on a mission trip to El Salvador. In the village she visited in 2018 is a women’s co-op that is one of the few ways for the local women to gain some independent income. They needed support for supplies so I suggested I make a quilt and we raffle it off in the US to raise funds to help support their work. It's the first time they have been able to give an actual cash donation to this group and we were thrilled to end up getting $600 in raffle tickets sold (we aimed for $450). The quilt is based on a piece in the September / October 2018 volume of Fons & Porter Love of Quilting : Kentucky Crossroads Quilt originally designed by Nancy Mahoney.
