Little Hoot
A few summers ago, I designed a little owl from some pine my son cut out. It was so cute (sorry for the lack of humbleness.) I went through my scraps and came up with this quilted version. The finished hanging is roughly 9" x 12", just the right size for a little October pop.
I created the background first, sewing whatever pieces I had on hand together to get the size needed. The owl, branch, and leaf are applied with Wonder Under 805, then stitched around the edges. I then added a couple of borders. Next came the batting. I quilted around all borders, then did some crazy FMQ in the background. The blanket stitch on the borders and binding help give a folk art feel to a contemporary design. FUN!
